hayama / changing

From the moment Hayama starts knowing Sana, he begins experiencing a profound change that stretches throughout the whole series and beyond. That's not to say Hayama was an evil boy who got transformed into a cute little kind kid. That's not what I think at all.

Akito was an extremely good person since he was born, probably. The thing is, he's had to endure a terrible life since always. Not because he was poor or completely alone, but because the blame for his mother's death was resting on his shoulders and his sister did everything she could to remind him of it. Since he was called a demon, he became one by choice. He thought no one would ever care about him and so he isolated himself from everything, to the point where his life seemed meaningless to him.

But Sana cared about him. And so she started to heal him. Sana was the one who made the Hayama family understand what they were doing to Akito, and that's all they needed. Hayama-chichi is actually a very caring father, who couldn't get past his wife's death, so he chose work instead of his children. Once he understood how this had affected Akito, making him behave like a bitter adult instead of a child, he started working less and taking care of his family at last.

Natsumi looked like a demon herself, the way she always mistreated Akito ever since they were kids. But the truth is, she's also a child in her own way. She dealt with her mother's death by blaming it all on her brother, not taking his feelings in consideration even once. Sana made her see what she was doing, and meanwhile realized that what her mother wanted was for Akito to live, nothing else. That was no way of treating a little brother, whom your mother died to protect.

And so the whole Hayama family began to express their feelings to each other, thanks to Sana. Hayama didn't have to eat outside alone anymore and recovered the adoration he had for his father, as well as started appreciating his sister. His eyes, once filled with killing intent and hate, became soft little by little, and even though he still lacks in communication skills (he'll always be the silent type), he began taking other people's feelings in consideration and caring about them.

This change also marks the beginning of Hayama's love for Sana. She became her most precious friend (sorry, Tsuyoshi-kun), the one he could always count on. But Akito, being the adult he is at heart, soon knew his feelings transcended those of friendship. He was in love with Sana, and prepared for anyone who may be his rival in love. Unfortunately for him, Sana thinks and acts like a child at that time, and it'd take her a long time before realizing the feelings the boy has for her.
