Tamaki was born in France and is half-Japanese (father), half-French (mother). He's fascinated by Japanese culture and spends lots of time researching and planning trips to places he's curious about. Being born in a wealthy enviroment (the only heir to the Suou fortune), he's also extremely curious towards "commoner's culture and customs" and his multiple collections (candy wraps, prize figurines) reflect that.

Original founder of the Host Club, he's also the most popular member with a 70% request rate. He's responsible for most of the Club's "proyects" due to his strong sense of justice and ability to be easily moved by other people's problems. He's also known for his sometimes erratic childish behavior and being excessively prone to dramatics. However, his way of acting is always completely sincere. Tamaki always means what he says or does.

The 王 (-ou) character in his surname means "king, monarch", which of course suits his position and character very well. Tamaki is voiced by Miyano Mamoru in the Ouran animated version and by Midorikawa Hikaru in the drama CDs.
